Orochimaru
Orochimaru's childhood is a well-guarded secret. His lineage and upbringing are left unspoken; those who share the details of his parents and their fate can be counted on one hand. Common knowledge of his past begins in the country of Konoha. It didn't take long for his interest in the arts of the craft to begin him down the path of a mage, and shorter still for his tutors to acknowledge his unusual talents. His snake-like eyes and pale skin drew attention; those around him either feared him, or respected him, but regardless, most held him at arm's length. Even so, he continued his pursuits until coming under the tutelage of one of the most prominent sorcerers within the city and inducted into the world of aristocrats, becoming a member of the Royal Court. It became obvious that Orochimaru possessed skills rivaled only by his unsurpassed ability to soak in everything he was taught like a sponge; he quickly impressed his master as he grew in age, until there was little more the man could teach.
Yet, it was not enough. Orochimaru was not satisfied. A true mage, an Oracle, at that, was not pacified with 'common' knowledge alone. What use were spells that could not be cast? What use was a mage who could not cast them, forbidden or not? The knowledge, that power, would be his, and he understood a singular human lifetime was not long enough to learn everything. This hunger for omniscience, this insatiable desire for power cost him his chances at inheriting the title of Archmage - and once Orochimaru's plans to succeed his master had failed, there was little more reason to continue stifling himself with the limitations and regulations of the village. It was time to spread his proverbial wings, to test his capabilities, and to understand his true potential.
It started slowly, at first; a missing Disciple would turn up dead, washed up upon the banks of the river, severely mutilated or missing several of his limbs. Initiates would fail to return to their homes after an excursion in the town, never to be seen again. Women, children, Adepts, Masters - they all indiscriminately fell victim to his human experimentation as he pursued his goals. He did little to cover his tracks, truly uncaring whether or not his laboratory was discovered and his deeds revealed - what did it matter? Konoha was worthless, a wasteful abyss, where mages became lazy and fat through apathy brought on by 'peace.'
The Third Archmage made the discovery. The laboratory was uncovered and raided during the late hours of the night; when confronted face to face with his former master, all Orochimaru could do was smile. The bodies of his master's guards hit the blood-stained ground hard - little more than limp paper dolls, he could remember it so clearly - and he saw the last shred of hope in his aged tutor's face finally die.
Curious, that. The old man still hadn't been able to bring himself to kill the pupil he'd grown to care for so much. Even after that light - sentimental, foolish, yes, but it'd existed none the less - had been extinguished.
Orochimaru abandoned Konoha, leaving behind his two comrades in arms who shared the title of Oracle; it meant nothing to him any longer. It was time to focus on his true purpose, one that would no longer be restricted by weak-minded pacifists feeding on their own stupidity.
The years after his departure are veiled in secrecy. None but Orochimaru know what he had done, what he had seen, or accomplished - however, years later, he possesses his own domain... the mysterious country known only as the "Sound," predominantly consisting of 'students' who studied beneath him. Some were shunned by society, others having no society to turn to, other still reliant upon Orochimaru to see their own dreams to fruition. Whatever the reason, they are loyal to their serpentine master, and it became apparent that they were a force to be feared.
